A repost is when you copy an original post (text) located on any social networking, mass-media or private website—with or without attribution. In other words, a repost is YOUR message containing a quotation from someone else's text.

Most people who repost a text don’t always give much thought to what they are quoting. They don’t think to seek out the source and verify the accuracy of the information; either that or they are just LAZY. They have NO TIME to verify whether what they are copying is true or false.

Therefore, it’s not uncommon for reposts (under specific conditions) to be outright slander or, at the very least, unconfirmed rumours and idle Internet gossip, insults, overly emotional statements, and judgements. This is how technology is working to attract people’s attention to insignificant facts or events with the goal of exaggerating the importance of a useless or even harmful product or service: the thousands of users who engage in reposting create black or white noise for free. But, here’s the rub:

Russian legislation shares no responsibility for the spread of illegal content: the author of the original publication or the other individuals who simply copied and spread it are responsible.
